To date, I have written or co-edited three books, each with a different audience in mind. Attempting to communicate key social issues with readers ranging from the general public to scholars, and high school to graduate students, each book or encyclopedia employs different methods and representational styles.

In 2007 I co-edited (with Professor Douglas Booth) the Berkshire Encyclopedia of Extreme Sports. This encyclopedia was the first to offer a comprehensive dissection of this new and emerging phenomenon, and its characteristics, philosophy, ideology, functions, history and future. The Encyclopedia features 114 entries written by authors from around the world, many of whom are both academics and active participants in the sports they write about. It contextualizes extreme sports, especially their key component—risk—from a number of disciplinary perspectives including history, sociology, psychology, theology and physiology.

In 2011 my first sole-authored book Snowboarding Bodies in Theory and Practice was published by Palgrave Macmillan. This book was written primarily for graduate students and scholars interested in social theory, youth culture, and/or sport and physical culture. Creatively blending theory and empirical research, this book provides the first in-depth analysis of the global phenomenon of snowboarding, and an engaging commentary on the use of social theory and research methods for understanding sport and physical cultures in the early twenty-first century.

My second sole-authored book, Snowboarding: The Ultimate Guide (due for publication in September 2011), is part of the Greenwood Guides to Extreme Sports series marketed to college, high school, and public libraries throughout the United States. I am the co-editor of this series with Professor Douglas Booth (University of Otago). Individual titles in this series include snowboarding, surfing, skateboarding, climbing, sky-diving and base-jumping, windsurfing and kitesurfing, BMX, and inline-skating. In each volume, the prominent athletes, extreme sport competitions, techniques, equipment and clothing will be highlighted. While the series focuses primarily on extreme sports in the United States, each title will include some coverage of extreme sports throughout the world:
